Is mental load the same as housework?

No. Housework is the physical labour — cleaning, cooking, tidying. Mental load is the cognitive work that precedes it: noticing something is needed, identifying options, making a decision, and monitoring whether it happens. You can do relatively little visible housework and still carry a heavy mental load — for example if you plan all the meals, coordinate all activities and track the children's needs while your partner executes many of the tasks you've identified.

Is mental load the same as being tired?
