About this sheet

Fall bingo is a picture bingo made for days out in autumn. Each square shows something the children can discover outside as nature turns colour — a red leaf, a chestnut, a pine cone, a mushroom or a flock of migrating birds. They tick off each item as they find it, and because the motifs are illustrated, even the youngest who can't read yet can join in.

The game is made for the fall break and the Sunday walk, when you're heading into the woods, a park or the countryside. It gives the children a clear goal instead of a screen, and works just as well on a short walk round the block as on a long hike. Many of the motifs — a muddy puddle, an umbrella and wellies — show up even on the greyest, wettest autumn days.

The sheet comes in three age versions: ages 4–6 with simple picture motifs like a leaf, a pine cone and a mushroom; ages 7–9 with pictures and words; and ages 10–12 with more and slightly harder things to find, such as rowan berries and birds migrating in formation. Each board has 30 motifs, so there's plenty to look for on a full autumn walk. Download the sheet free without signing in and print it on A4 at home before you head out.

What you get

  • A4 5×5 bingo boards with autumn motifs: red and yellow leaves, chestnut, pine cone, mushroom, hedgehog and migrating birds.
  • Motifs that work on grey, wet autumn days too — umbrella, wellies and muddy puddles.
  • Pictures for the youngest and words for the oldest — three age levels ready to print.
  • Three unique boards per download, so siblings don't end up with the same board.
  • A name field at the top for tidy rounds, with no arguing over who spotted what.

How to use it

  1. Choose an age. Set the level for each player. The youngest get a board with simple picture motifs; older children get more and slightly harder things to find.
  2. Print before the walk. Print at home on a standard printer. Pop the sheets in the bag with a pencil and something firm to lean on, and they're ready when you step outside.
  3. Play on the walk. The children tick off the motifs they spot in nature. Decide whether a row or a full board wins, and let the winner choose the hot chocolate flavour on the way home.
