Nature bingo for kids
Nature bingo turns any walk into a discovery game. Kids hunt for pine cones, ants, mushrooms, birds and leaves instead of watching the path ahead. This free printable A4 board downloads instantly with no sign-up, ready to pack in the rucksack before you head outdoors.
About this sheet
Nature bingo is a picture bingo where every square shows something children can find or spot outdoors. They tick off each one as they walk, and because the squares are illustrated even pre-readers can join in from around age four.
The game turns a hike into something children look forward to. Instead of asking how much further, they scan the undergrowth for a pine cone, watch the sky for a buzzard and roll over logs looking for beetles. It works on short woodland walks and long mountain routes alike.
The sheet comes in three age variants — ages 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 — so the motifs match what younger and older children can realistically find. You can print a different level for each child so everyone plays a fair game.
Download the A4 PDF free, print it at home before you leave, and pack one sheet per child. The rule is simple: first to five in a row wins, or for younger children you can play until the whole board is filled.
What you get
- A4 5×5 board with nature motifs: animals, plants, birds, weather, terrain
- Choose season (spring, summer, autumn, winter) and landscape (forest, mountain, coast)
- Picture bingo for ages 4–6, word bingo for ages 7–12
- Rules printed on the same sheet — complete a row or fill the whole board
- Short 'did you know' fact about two of the motifs on the page
How to use it
- Choose season and landscape. Match the board to where you are going. A mountain board skips the ants; a forest board skips the crabs.
- Print and pack. Fold the sheet into quarters and slip it into the rucksack with a short pencil. A plastic sleeve keeps it dry in a shower.
- Play as you walk. Kids tick off each motif as they spot it. No arguing over 'I saw it first' — the first child to see it ticks their own board.

Frequently asked questions
- How do you play nature bingo?
- Each child gets their own board and a pencil. They tick off the pictures as they spot each thing in the wild. First to complete a row wins, or play until the whole board is full for a longer game.
- What age is nature bingo for?
- It comes in three variants: ages 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12. The youngest version uses simple, recognisable motifs so pre-readers can play from the pictures alone.
- Is nature bingo free to print?
- Yes. The A4 PDF is completely free, downloads instantly with no sign-up, and prints on a standard home printer.
- Is nature bingo good for hikes with kids?
- Yes, it is designed for outdoor use. It gives children something to look for along the trail and works just as well on a short woodland walk as on a longer mountain hike.
- How many boards do we need?
- Print one board per child so each has their own to tick. For a longer outing you can bring a spare sheet for a second round.
