What makes a good family activity?

A good family activity is one where everyone contributes at their own level and nobody ends up watching from the sidelines. That's easier to achieve with structured activities than with free play — because structure can be scaled to different ages. A quiz can have easier questions for one round and harder ones for the next. Car bingo can have different boards: kids look for common motifs, adults hunt for rarer ones.
