First Foods Taste Log – Free Printable
The First Foods Taste Log is a free A4 sheet where you write down every new taste your child tries — what it was, when it happened, and whether your child liked it. The sheet is meant only as a practical memory aid for your family and daycare, not as health guidance; any questions about feeding or reactions should go to your health visitor or doctor. Print the sheet and hang it up at home, or keep it in a binder you fill in as new tastes come along.
About this sheet
Keeping a written log makes it much easier to remember what your child has actually tried, especially once the list grows longer than you expected. A quick note in the moment beats trying to recall it weeks later.
The sheet is meant to be filled in by hand, a little at a time, rather than planned out in advance. There's no required order for writing things down — just add each new taste as it happens.
Because the log is simple and visual, it works well as a shared reference between parents, grandparents, and daycare, so everyone sees the same overview at a glance.
If you ever have questions about feeding, reactions, or anything else related to your child's diet, your health visitor or doctor is the right person to ask — this sheet is only here to help you keep track, not to guide those decisions.
What you get
- One printable A4 page with blank rows for logging every new taste
- Three versions: a simple log, a full log, and a month-by-month log
- Space for the date and whether your child liked each new taste
- A clear note that this is a memory aid only, not health guidance
How to use it
- Print the sheet. Choose the version that fits your routine and print it on A4 paper.
- Fill in as you go. Each time your child tries something new, write it down along with the date and how it went.
- Hang it up or file it. Keep the sheet on the fridge or in a binder, or bring it along to checkups as your own notes.
- Share it with caregivers. Let daycare staff or grandparents add to the same sheet, so everyone sees what's already been tried.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this a feeding plan or medical advice?
- No. The Taste Log is only a place to write down what your child has tried and how it went. It doesn't tell you what to try, in what order, or at what age — for any questions about feeding, please talk to your health visitor or doctor.
- What should I write in the 'Liked / didn't like' column?
- Just your own observation from that day — it isn't a final verdict. A 'didn't like' note today can easily change the next time you write down the same taste, so there's no need to read too much into a single entry.
- Can I use this sheet at daycare as well?
- Yes. Many families print an extra copy so daycare staff can add new tastes during the day, keeping one shared overview between home and daycare instead of two separate lists.
- Which version should I choose?
- Pick whichever layout suits how you like to write things down — a simple log with fewer columns and larger fields, a full log with every column and the most rows, or a month-by-month layout for looking back over time. All three work the same way.
- Do I need to fill in every row?
- No. The rows are simply there for whenever a new taste comes up — leave blank rows for later and fill them in at your own pace, since there's no schedule to follow.
